Behavioral Sciences

Departmental News
The Graduate Behavioral Sciences faculty participated in training on the use of innovative technology in online courses on October 6. 

Dr. Beth Hennington has been selected as one of ten Wiley Faculty Fellows.  Wiley Faculty Fellows are a small, select group of distinguished faculty who have helped catalyze innovation in teaching and learning on their respective campuses. 

Dr. Beth Hennington will be attending the Online Learning Consortium International Conference 2014 in Orlando, Florida from October 29-31.

Erin Aaron has been accepted to a doctorate program in General Psychology with an Emphasis in Cognition and Instruction at Grand Canyon University. 

Dr. Chris Hennington, Dr. Shauna Frisbie and Dr. Beth Robinson will be presenting “Personality as a Gate-Keeping Tool for Counselor Education: A Pilot Study” at the Texas Counselor Association’s 58th Annual Professional Growth Conference in Dallas on November 12-15.

Dr. Carlos Perez and Dr. LynnAnne Lowrie have submitted a study entitled “Experiences in Remarriage and Attachment Following the Death of a Spouse” to the IRB committee for approval.

Dr. Beth Robinson, Dr. Chris Hennington, Dr. Beth Hennington, and Dr. Shauna Frisbie had an IRB approved for a research study entitled “Examining the Impact of Orientation Camp on First-Generation College Students and Adaptation to College Life.”

Dr. Kaylene Brown has a weekly program on ChapRadio at 9:00 AM on Tuesdays. Her November line-up includes Dr. JoAnn Long, who will discuss the Ebola situation; Robin Renfrew, who will discuss mission work; Dr. LynnAnne Lowrie, who will discuss marriage and the family; Christy Oden, Med, LPC, who will discuss play therapy and animal assisted therapy.

Dr. Jonna Byars had her dissertation, “Education Under Pressure: Management of Stress and Anxiety in Graduate Students” republished.

Dr. Jonna Byars did an online presentation and discussion for the Society of Psychological Type called, “Myers Briggs Type Manifestations in Children.” She also participated in a roundtable discussion for the Society of Psychological Types called “The Cognitive Lens: A Bulletin Roundtable.”

Dr. Jonna Byars attended the Spirituality in Client Care: The Role of Faith, Meditation, and Mindfulness in Healing Conference.

Dr. Beth Robinson spoke on “Sex, Lies, and Selfishness” at the McDermott Road Church of Christ on September 20.  She also spoke about “Joy in the Unexpected” at the Ladies Night Out at Southwest Church of Christ on September 29.

Robin Renfrew is in the process of getting her dissertation proposal approved. Her dissertation topic is “Secondary Stress in Disaster Volunteers.

Dr. Beth Robinson attended Trust-Based Relationship Intervention (TBRI) training at TCU from October 13-17.  Attending the conference is part of the process of becoming a TBRI Educator.  TBRI is an evidence-based intervention for working with traumatized children. 

Dr. Beth Robinson will be co-presenting with Dr. Jenene Alexander from Harding at two sessions at the Arkansas Counseling Association in Hot Springs, AR from November 19-21.  The two sessions are titled “Helping Traumatized Children Write Their Own Story” and “Understanding How Child Abuse Impacts Sensory Integration and Brain Development.”
