Sam Ayers kicked-off the 5th grade biographies unit as he presented “Reading and Writing Biographies” to the Lubbock Cooper North Language Arts classes (October 16, 2014). 

Sam Ayers served as the guest speaker for the LCU Kappa Delta Pi Initiation (October 8, 2014).  

Sam Ayers collaborated with the Miller Elementary School 4th grade math teacher to integrate literature and math.  Sam Ayers delivered an enthusiastic retelling of The Doorbell Rang to all 4th grade math classes as part of  their division unit (October 7, 2014)

Sam Ayers shared his experiences with illustration in a presentation, “Doodles, Drawings and Art,” for the Williams Elementary School Art Club, Grades 3-5 (September 30, 2014)

Cathy Box, Tonia Boyer, Wanda Dyess, Gonzalo Ramirez and Josh Wheeler attended the CSOTTE (Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education) conference in Austin on October 19-21.   Cathy Box and Josh Wheeler presented on Flipped Classrooms – Preparing for Learning in the 21st Century.  Gonzalo Ramirez presented on Teacher Behaviors for the Instruction of ESL.

Wanda Dyess, Director of Certification, recently attended the CSOTTE meeting in Austin.  She currently serves as the state Secretary for the (TCTCT) Texas Coordinators for Teacher Certification Testing.  Wanda also attended the Deans meetings in Dr. David Boyer’s absence.

Wanda met with the WTASPA organization for their Fall meeting hosted at Lowery Field by LISD on October 24.

Wanda Dyess serves on the Executive Board for the LCU Associates and has just completed a year as coordinator for the Pie Booth at the South Plains Fair.  She is also the chair for the Chap Sack project which is a Service Project/Fund raiser where letters are sent to parents of on campus students to purchase three gift bags for the year.  Wanda and her committee then decorate and stuff bags for the students to be delivered at December Finals, Valentines and Spring Finals.  Those letters have been sent to the parents and orders are coming in.

Wanda Dyess serves as the chair for the Centennial Committee for the Arnett house, home of the Associates.  Some of the activities still to be held are: A Christmas Coffee will be held in December, a Sweet Evening will be hosted on Friday, February 13th for on campus students with Valentine Cookies and Hot Chocolate at the Arnett House. And a Centennial Celebration will be held on April 6th, with a special presentation during Chapel, a ribbon cutting for the new Grand re-opening, and the unveiling of the State Historical Designation.  This committee has worked for 2 years to raise special funds for refurbishing the home for the centennial, to make contact with Arnett Family members and to plan events for the celebrations.

Wanda and her husband, Alan, are serving as a Mentor Couple for a Marriage 101 class at South Plains church of Christ for engaged couples.
