Michelle Kraft's article, "Situating the Standards of Visual Arts Education to Include Disability," was accepted for publication in the 2016 volume of the peer-refereed journal Texas Trends in Art Education. The journal is due for publication in November.
Michelle has been invited to submit chapters for two upcoming book publications, both due for publication in 2017:
"Inclusion Matters: 'Are You Sure You Belong Here?'" (coauthored with Karen Keifer-Boyd and Alice Wexler) in Contemporary Art and Culture in Disability Studies (Syracuse University Press). Alice Wexler and John Derby are editors.
"Including Students with Disabilities in Visual Arts Education" in Handbook of Arts Education and Special Education (Routledge). Jean Crockett and Sharon Malley are editors.
Michelle will be traveling with senior Art Education major Alexandria Stakely and LCU students and faculty to the 2016 Conference for Undergraduate Research in Asheville, NC, in April. Alexandria's paintings have been accepted to the juried art exhibition as part of that conference.
The Art program is hosting its second annual Juried Art Student Exhibition. The exhibit will hang in the Studio Gallery April 4-29. There will be an awards ceremony and reception on Monday evening, April 11, at 6:00 p.m. LCU Art alumna and Texas Tech University Master of Art Education candidate Courtney Tyler will serve as guest juror.
Members of the Student Art Association served as volunteers for the regional Visual Art Scholastic Event at Frenship High School in February. VASE is a UIL equivalent event in visual arts. Michelle Kraft and Sara White also served as jurors for regional VASE, as did LCU alumni Ryanne Roark, Loren Wilferth, and Courtney Tyler.
Michelle and LCU alumnus Chase Smith spoke at the March 9 meeting of the Ladies Bible Class at the Brownfield church of Christ. Michelle spoke on the Return of the Prodigal Son, and Chase spoke about Carpenter's Church in Lubbock.
