Many fun and rewarding activities from Spring Break.
Jim Smith (Technology) and Lorna Smith (Business Office) enjoyed the tulips at
Pilot Point, TX.
The School of Education sent a group of 13 students and 4 sponsors (Joy Plank, Gonzalo Ramirez, Annette Mahan, and Dana Reeger) to Tabacundo, Ecuador to work with children at the Hacienda of Hope orphanage and teach in two public schools and the Hacienda of Hope Academy. The students taught interactive lessons with the assistance of translators. Crates of supplies were given to each school and the orphanage. All were blessed by the children and teachers they met in Ecuador.
A group of students and employees who went to Tuba City, AZ over spring break on a mission trip. Tuba City is the largest community on the Navajo Indian Reservation. They were able to give the missionaries a chance to get away to have a family vacation and recharge their batteries. The work project this year was to help a single mom with health issues to clean up her yard. They also lead church on Sunday morning and led Wednesday Teen Night. They came home with sore bodies, full hearts, and lots of stories. Just ask any of them and they will gladly talk your ear off! This was the third mission trip to Tuba City for the Rogers.
The group included:
Current Students:
Keaton Rogers
Aaron Roberts
Catherine Kamagaju
Employees:
Keith Rogers (Sciences)
Karen Spence (Library)
Alumni:
Kelly (Price) Rogers, '87
Future Alumni:
Kadison Rogers
Deb Todd (MarCom) spent time in Snyder, TX with "niece" and "nephews" jumping on the trampoline to get crazy hair and chasing an almost crawler around to get a good photo.
LCU’s Veterans of Faith went over to Tammy Kitten's (Post Office) house on the last Saturday of Spring Break and filled 5 lb bags of dirt for their 5K Ruck n’ Run coming up April 9.
Renee Rhodes (MarCom) traveled with her mother, Julie (Swafford) Rhodes ('85), to NYC as a chaperone for the Rouse High School Choir (of which Julie is assistant director). The trip consisted of 35 high schoolers, eight adults, and two tour guides. Everyone's feet hurt, but no one got lost, the tours were fascinating, and the group saw several shows, including Disney's Aladdin on Broadway with an award winning cast, whom they met after the curtain closed.
